Royal Navy Shooters took gold and silver at the Inter-Service Short Range Championships in Bisley.

A ten strong team represented the Royal Navy in the Inter-service Short Range Championships at Bisley. The Navy took home the top medals in the competition which focusses on 10 meter standing Air Rifle and 25 yard 3 positional shooting.

An annual competition between the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, taking place at Bisley shooting grounds focusing on the shorter distance shooting. The Royal Navy team for the annual tri-service competition was made up of experienced shooters and rapidly up-and-coming members of the team. 

On the first day, the Royal Navy took a strong second place in the 10-meter Air Rifle match, beating the Royal Air Force.

A team of eight and two reserves shoot at 25 yards, firing 60 shots for the Royal Navy in the main event on day two. Several of the Navy’s Shooters were representing for the first time and earned their colours. 

The end of the competition saw Lt Theo Dodds RN with impressive marksmanship take a clear lead scoring 599 out of 600 to take first place! The runner up was Lt Neil Umpleby RN with a score of 594 out of 600.

The Royal Navy also took second place in the Prone Team match. 

Lt Cdr Tim Westmaas chairman of the RNSSC said 'It was excellent shooting by all the team, and we are seeing our newer shooters coming through representing the Royal Navy and gaining valuable experience.'

 The team now look towards further competitions this year with their eyes on the Long-Range Championships due in September.
