Pupils on the road to safety 09 November 2016 Recently HMS Collingwood’s onsite Nursery received a visit from 2 of the establishment’s Royal Navy Police (RNP). The RNP made their way across the naval base to Woodentots Nursery ready to give an interactive and educational session to the 3-4 year old pupils. The aim of the activity was to enforce the Road Safety Campaign within the local community, whilst allowing the children to engage with personnel to change the cultural attitude towards the Police from an early age. Master at Arms (MAA) Marie Bradley and Leading Regulator (LReg) Sophie Hurlo began by discussing road safety to the children, demonstrating how to safely cross the road and explaining each meaning of the three traffic light colours. MAA Marie Bradley commented “It’s great to engage with the children to promote road safety and it also helps to build the familiarity between them and the Police.” After the Woodentots pupils had mastered their safety skills, they had the chance to explore an RNP vehicle, followed by getting messy with some finger printing on DNA cards.
